Nationals Debut for Up-and-Comer

Recently the athletics nationals were held in Sydney where our very own Year 7 student Zac Archer was busy representing Queensland in Shot put.  This was the biggest event that Zac has participated in since beginning his shot-putting journey and he has said that he leant a lot, especially about the buzz of such a large event.

Zac has some pretty incredible stats that are quite frankly nothing short of impressive.  He was the youngest male at the meet, in the top seven under 16 para-athletes in Australia.  Zac is only 11 years old and though he may be turning 12 very soon to be competing at this level and at this young age against older competitors is an achievement well deserved of much recognition.  We here at Mt Maria College Petrie are very proud of him and Mr Michael Connolly (College Principal) was privileged enough to get to watch Zac during this meet.

With each throw, Zac threw further and his longest throw reached 5.09m; shy of his PB at 5.45m but this has not phased Zac much.  He feels that the Nationals has helped him a lot and was very proud to wear the Queensland colours.  From the warm up on the outer field through to the last throw, he kept pushing himself further.  Zac will continue training in the off season and is looking forward to future meets.  This is a space worth the watch!
